I am thrilled to be joining the GATE team as I enter my 6th year teaching at A.E. Wright. I have had the pleasure of working with many of the GATE students while chaperoning school trips the past few years and could not be more excited to teach them each day this year. The passion GATE students bring to the classroom is captivating and I look forward to helping them grow throughout the upcoming year!

This will be my 13th year teaching Science at A.E. Wright. I am thrilled to be a part of the GATE program and am looking forward to getting to know each of my students.  Teaching science provides me with a great opportunity to observe students' strengths, talents and unique interests!

When I began teaching at A.E. Wright in 2009, I was lucky enough to teach History Social-Science and Language Arts GATE classes for a few years. I am beyond thrilled to have found my way back to the GATE program! I look forward to sharing my passions of Social Studies and Language Arts with our gifted Spartans this year. I'm excited to get to know my students, foster higher-level learning, learn from them, laugh together, and most importantly to grow together.

"I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes. Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You're doing things you've never done before, and more importantly, you're Doing Something."  – Neil Gaiman

My goal in teaching has always been to work for the long-term flourishing of young people. I'm grateful to have an opportunity to work with GATE students whose curiosities and passions open the door for meaningful examination of our world and ourselves too. Our world is full of wonders to explore! This is my 9th year in teaching and my fifth year working with GATE students in LVUSD. I have a special place in my heart for middle schoolers and look forward to growing and learning together with each unique group of students every year.

"When one teaches, two learn."  - Robert Heinlein

Working with GATE students is a unique and special teaching experience for me because I feel I also get to learn from the students.  Together, we explore our curiosities, dive deep into topics, have the most interesting conversations, ask questions through inquiries, and respectfully challenge each other through debates.

"There is hope in dreams, imagination, and in the courage of those who wish to make those dreams a reality."

– Jonas Salk

I think that students embody society's hope for a brighter future, and that our GATE student's imagination and dreams for a better world need to be fostered so that they can shape our world into a better place.

I feel truly privileged to be a GATE teacher during this upcoming school year which marks my 20th year teaching middle school (17th at A.E. Wright). I am a proud Spartan and consider AEW a second home. It is my honor to work with this unique population of students who continuously challenge and delight me with their wit, wisdom, and wile. Together we will think critically, challenge respectfully, and question artfully as we read extraordinary literature, write profusely and dive deeply into history. Most importantly, I look forward to getting to know students whose enthusiasm and quest for knowledge inspire my own!

More than two decades after culminating as an 8th grader from A.E.Wright, I’m thrilled to be returning as a staff member. I have taught a wide variety of ages and subjects in my 13 years of teaching. I’m so excited to be joining the GATE team and getting to work with the wonderful students of A.E.Wright. My favorite thing about teaching is making connections between myself and my students and between my students and the curriculum. History is alive today and everyone loves a good story.
